Varadkar says the government is very concerned about rising energy costs

The government will seek to reduce excise duties on fuel and energy supplies, the Tánaiste said in the Dáil.

During questions from leaders in the Dáil, Varadkar said the government was concerned about rising energy costs, which he said would continue to rise in the coming weeks.

Indeed, the Russian president has upended hopes for a post-pandemic period of normalcy and stability, Varadkar claimed.

However, Varadkar took pains to assure the Dail that Ireland’s energy supply was secure and not dependent on Russia or the Ukraine.

It’s understood that Ministers will meet later today to discuss what should be done to receive the refugees from Ukraine.
