Varadkar: The numbers of covid-19 just aren’t good enough yet to ease restrictions

It appears as though no lockdown restrictions will be lifted next Tuesday on May 5th.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has commented that the numbers around ICU admissions, the numbers of new cases and the numbers deaths from Covid-19 “just aren’t good enough yet”.

“Maybe it’ll change significantly by Friday, but as things stand I don’t think we’re there yet,”, RTE reports.

Varadkar suggested that an easing of the restrictions would not be announced this week but a layout for when restrictions will be lifted, may well be confirmed

“We expect to be in a position to share the exit strategy with the Irish public in the next couple of days, certainly over the weekend.

“We’ll be getting new advice from the Chief Medical Officer on Friday as to when we should start that process of reopening the economy and the country.”, the national broadcaster reports.

The Liberal understands that a possible press conference will be held on Friday afternoon laying out the government’s intensions.
