Two vegan parents were charged with first degree murder in Florida this Wednesday after their 18-month-old son starved to death on a diet of only raw fruit and vegetables.
Ryan Patrick O’Leary (30) and Sheila O’Leary (35) were charged with first degree murder as well as aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter, child abuse and two counts of child neglect and these charges related to couples three other children as well.
The O’Leary’s other children aged, three and five-years-old are now in state custody, while an 11-year-old child who was in their care has been returned to the custody of their biological father.
All three other children are said to have suffered from child abuse and extreme neglect at the hands of the devoutly vegan couple.
Mrs O’Leary called emergency services in September when her son stopped breathing and felt cold, she attempted but resuscitate him but was sadly unsuccessful.
The baby but he was dead when paramedics arrived, and experts later determined that the 18-month-old’s weight was in line with the average weight of a seven-month-old baby Florida’s News-Press reported.
