A radical group of Veteran Republicans held an independent touch lit 1916 commemoration near the village of Mullaghbawn in South Armagh in recent days.
An unnamed spokesman said that much of the recent “celebrations” regarding 1916 ignored the ongoing plight of Irish citizens living in the occupied part of this island Republic, still dealing with a British police force and security structure.
Under a traditional “Irish Republic” flag the following statement was read out:
“In the ashes of our broken dreams,we’ve lost sight of our goal, the best independence, the foundation of every other kind is the Independence of mind”.
