VIDEO: Garda remains in hospital after head split open after being beaten with a metal torch during vicious Ballyfermot attack

A Garda is hospitalized after being seriously attacked Sunday night by vandals in front of a pub.

The policeman and his female colleague were responding to a discussion in a pub in Ballyfermot, Dublin.

When they arrived at the scene, they were attacked by at least three men.

The Liberal understands that the male garda was beaten about the head with a metal torch, splitting his head open requiring multiple stitches.

It’s understood the female garda was dragged along the ground by her hair and had facial injuries from the attack.

The male Garda was brutally beaten to the ground and kicked and punched several times, with sources saying he was hit several times in the face and head.

His colleague was dragged away by a man when she tried to intervene.

Other Garda units arrived at the scene and made a series of arrests.

The two Gardas who responded to the incident have been taken to hospital for treatment, with the male officer remaining there this morning.

A video of the incident was widely shared on social media.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin “fully condemned” the attack on the gardaí at Ballyfermot, calling it “reprehensible”.

According to The Mirror, he said: “There can be no toleration for those kinds of assaults on gardai who are out there putting their lives and them[selves] on the line to protect us all in society. It is utterly reprehensible what occurred last evening. I know the gardaí are following up on that and are investigating that.”

Speaking about the incident, Garda Deputy Commissioner Angela Willis, Dublin Region, said: “My thoughts this morning are with our two colleagues from Ballyfermot who were viciously assaulted last night whilst going about their normal duties, protecting communities in the Ballyfermot area. I absolutely condemn the actions of the individuals involved in this serious incident and wish the members that were injured a full and speedy recovery,” reports The Mirror.
