As the Dáil prepares to vote for a new Taoiseach, a group of Independent TDs has confirmed that they will offer their vote to neither Enda Kenny nor Micheal Martin.

The Independents reacted with disappointment to the recent, 122-page proposal from Fine Gael.

Dublin South-West TD Katherine Zappone, for instance, has said that “It is very, very disappointing. For me to be in a position to vote I would need a person and a programme to support and we don’t have that.”

The country has been without an elected Government for over a month now, and no clear direction or plan seems to exist at a political level to achieve the formation of a functioning Cabinet any time soon.
