A charity team of swimmers from Ireland have achieved a magnificent feat by completing the North Channel swim from Ireland to Scotland, swimming without wet suits in winter.

According to RTE, the swim never normally takes place during the winter and is considered the toughest of the series of seven ocean sea swims.

The six members of the Walrus Swim Team were delighted to complete the challenge in just under 13 hours.  They swam in hour-long rotations.

In order to keep the team safe, strict medical conditions were place on the swimmers by the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association and the team was swimming for charity.   Donations were made for a charity that provides support for families dealing with childhood cancer.
