There’s absolute uproar in Fine Gael over the past weekend with the Junior Minister of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Michael D’Arcy claiming that the senior gardai in the border area completely and utterly let down the directors of QIH.
The controversial comments were met with dismay from Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan along with top brass gardai who all say that they did and are doing all they can to find out who beat Quinn director Kevin Lunney.
Speaking on RTÉ’s The Week in Politics, D’Arcy saying that the executives were “disappointed” that they’d been left on their own to deal with a long-running and escalating campaign of intimidation. (without the help of An Gardai).
According to RTe, Flanagan said in retaliation: “Border policing presents acute challenges in any jurisdiction and also here on the island of Ireland.”
He said that “it’s important that we look forward, acknowledging the progress that was made, but ensuring that the gardaí vigorously and relentlessly pursue those responsible” for the attack on Kevin Lunney and the threats against other directors of QIH.
“I look forward to further progress on what is a really important investigation over coming weeks,” he added.
