Warning issued after measles cases rise by 244% in 2018




A warning has been issued after it was revealed that there has been an increase in measles cases in Ireland over the past year.

According to new statistics published by UNICEF Ireland, there were 86 cases reported here in 2018.

The figures show that there was a 244% increase on 2017, when there were 25 cases reported.

UNICEF issued the warning as a total of 98 countries also saw a rise in cases.

The charity say that vaccines are required in order to halt the spread of cases and they have urged governments worldwide to issue the appropriate information in regards to their vaccination programmes.
