Waterford air crash: Pilot was flying vintage “James Bond” mini-jet

bd5

Howard Cox, a very experienced pilot and engineer, sadly lost his life yesterday when the classic BD5 jet he was flying came down near Dungarvan, in Co. Waterford.

The plane had been made popular by the opening sequence of the hit James Bond movie Octopussy. Mr. Cox had spent nearly three decades working on his jet, enhancing its engine and overall performance.

It is understood that Mr. Cox, who was originally from Devon in the UK, had recently beat cancer. He was due to take part in the Foynes Air Show the day after his death.

A minute’s silence was held at the show today, to pay respect to the popular pilot.
