Gardai say that they’re still none the wiser with no evidence or arrests in connection with Kyran Durnin’s disappearance.
The search for Kyran Durnin, a missing schoolboy, has been completed at his old family home and a nearby open space in Dundalk, County Louth, reports RTE.
According to the GardaÃ, the search results will not be made public for operational reasons.
They think the six-year-old kid may have been murdered as recently as two years ago.
Earlier, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris stated that since Kyran was last seen in 2022, gardaà had been attempting to find “proof of life” and were unable to verify if the youngster “saw his seventh or eighth birthdays,” reports RTE.
After gardaà seized the former Durnin family house at Emer Terrace on Monday in accordance with a court order, the search operation began on Tuesday.
During the three-day operation, the property itself was searched, and the garden behind it was excavated.
The patch of wasteland beyond the rear gardens of the row of terraced houses was the focus of today’s quest.
This morning, before shrubbery was trimmed back and disposed of in a skip, members of the Garda Technical Bureau were observed bringing strimmers and chainsaws into a rather tiny area of wasteland, reports RTE.
To get access to the wasteland, the Gardaà worked closely with locals, who have stated that neither they nor the present occupants of the property have anything to do with Kyran’s abduction.
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau departed the search location just after 3 p.m. today afternoon as the search was coming to an end.
Until a digger and other equipment were removed shortly after, Gardaà from the local divisional search unit were on the scene, reports RTE.
The gardaà announced this evening that the search was over, however the findings are not being shared with the public.
Additionally, the Gardaà stated that investigations are still underway and reaffirmed their request for information regarding the matter.
The Gardaà issued a statement for people to come forward with any information they may have concerning Kyran or his location.
“Please do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence. You can contact the Garda Investigation Team at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or speak with any member of An Garda SÃochána,” reports RTE.
The situation was previously referred to as “horrifying” by the Special Rapporteur on Child Protection.
It is “deeply concerning” that it took two years for the missing child’s case to be investigated, according to Caoilfhionn Gallagher.
“I share the concerns expressed by many ministers, by an Taoiseach and indeed, by the Children’s Rights Alliance about what’s happened here,” she said, reports RTE.
