The leftovers of former Hurricane Ernesto are expected to bring “unseasonably” windy and rainy conditions to Ireland, according to Met Eireann, which has issued a weather warning. Ireland is directly in the path of the storm, which is now tearing over the Atlantic, reports The Mirror.
This evening, severe weather is predicted to hit the nation, with gale-force winds and deluges of rain predicted. The storm’s strongest winds are probably going to affect areas in the west.
For counties Galway and Mayo, a seven-hour weather warning is in effect starting at 7 p.m. Unusually strong and gusty winds from the south to southwest, along by extremely high tides and a lot of rain are the cause for concern. Western counties are most likely to see such effects.”
Today’s forecast reads: “Breezy and mostly cloudy today with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading eastwards across mainly the northern half of the country through the morning. The rain and drizzle will mostly become confined to northern parts of Ulster later in the afternoon, while it’ll become mostly dry elsewhere. However, a band of heavier rain and strong winds will move in along the west coast later in the evening and will coincide with very high tides, which may result in coastal flooding and wave overtopping. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C with moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwest winds, stronger in western coastal parts, strengthening generally later and reaching gale force in some western coastal parts,” reports The Mirror.
Met Eireann said: “Any remaining rain in the east will clear early on Thursday morning and it’ll be mostly dry for the morning and afternoon with some sunshine for a while, and just a few well scattered showers. However, it’ll become increasingly cloudy through the day, with rain spreading eastwards across much of the country in the evening, becoming heavy in places. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C in mostly moderate west to southwest winds, fresh to strong for a time in western and northwestern coastal parts with the winds backing southerly later in the day and strengthening in the southwest,” reports The Mirror.
