Weather misery expected for the first weekend of July, with wind and rain predominant

Met Eireann is predicting a rather miserable weekend, weather-wise at least, with heavy rain and wind throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Today, Thursday, will remain relatively dry and mild during the day, but a band of heavy rain will arrive by late evening. The rain will spread across most areas overnight. Friday will be a dull and wet day, particularly across the west and southwest.

Conditions will remain equally unpleasant over the weekend, with periods of rain and wind and some sunny spells. The only consolation is that temperatures will remain relatively mild at around 19-20C.

Early indications point to a drier few days after the weekend.
