Weather misery in both ends of the Atlantic: Wind and rainfall warning in effect for eight counties

There’s widespread weather misery today, it seems.
As Hurricane Irma batters the Caribbean and now Florida, Ireland is also getting a fair share of miserable weather.

A status yellow wind and rainfall warning is now in effect for the following eight counties: Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

Heavy rainfall and gusts of wind of up to 110 km/h are expected in most areas.

The culprit is a low-pressure system currently tracking eastwards over the Atlantic. This weather front is expected to bring further rain and winds over the next two days.

People are advised to avoid walking or standing near coastal fringes as the high winds and sea pose a serious hazard.
