In what can only be described as a truly disturbing and violent attack on someone visiting our country, there’s not much hope for the future of tourism if this is how our visitors are treated.
An Italian gentleman aged in his 40s was having food with his female companion at the weekend when a verbal row broke out between the pair and a group of teenage thugs in a fast food outlet.
The row ended, or so it seemed, and the Italians left the premises only to be set upon outside by the teenagers.
It’s understood that one thug was arrested after the Italian was left on the ground with a severe injury to his eye.
The man was bleeding profusely when emergency services arrived. It’s understood the man remains in hospital and may lose the sight in his eye and possibly even the eye itself.
It’s not yet known whether a weapon was used in the assault but gardai say they’re doing all they can to find out precisely what happened, including investigating all CCTV in the area.
