“We’ll do all we can for Ukrainians” – Government focuses on housing refugees despite research showing almost 300,000 Irish people rely on friends or families for accommodation

You’d have to query what exactly is going on in the minds of the so-called government leaders.

Research carried out by Simon Communities Ireland shows that official figures regarding homelessness in the country dramatically downplay the crisis.

The research shows that as many as 290,000 people in Ireland are likely to be experiencing hidden homelessness, as friends or family are increasingly relied upon to provide accommodation for others the Independent reported.

These shocking and unprecedented figures are released to the public at a time when anger is almost boiling over as the government dedicates inordinate amounts of resources to housing refugees from Ukraine and elsewhere.

Across the country local authorities are being pushed to focus on securing shared accommodation for Ukrainian refugees while the country has also seen an increasing number of refugees from countries such as Georgia and Somalia.

“There are no political circumstances for Georgian citizens to seek asylum in Ireland, “– Georgian ambassador to Ireland, Giorgi Zurabishvili, said last year in relation to the increasing number of people from his country claiming asylum in Ireland.

Irish citizens awaiting social housing are not only being pushed to the back of the que but citizens looking to rent or buy privately are also facing an almost insurmountable task of securing a mortage in a property bubble ready to burst while rents are reaching new records heights every month.

The disregard for the needs of the indigenous Irish people has been highlights by some but the political and media establishment have reacted with outright disdain for working- and middle-class Irish people, insulting and threatening them for daring to speak out.
