Update: Three Ireland have released a statement saying that no Irish customers were affected by the cyber attack.

There’s many concerned Irish customers of the Three network this morning, as their personal data may have been compromised during a severe security breach at the operator’s sister firm in the UK it has been revealed.

The hackers were able to access customers’ names, phone numbers, addresses and even their dates of birth, but reportedly no financial information was compromised during the cyber attack.

It was initially thought that Irish customers were not affected by the attack but that since has been put to one side as it now appears that the Irish customers database was in the area where the cyber attack occurred.

The perpetrators began upgrading customers’ accounts, then intercepting the new phones after being hacked.

The attack has raised concerns that data belonging to millions of customers may be sold online or elsewhere.
