Western media has been accused of ignoring footage which appears to show surrendered and unarmed Russian soldiers being executed in cold blood as they lay on the ground.
The US war crimes envoy downplayed the mass murder and said that Russian forces have done worse than their Ukrainian proxies.
Russia Today has also reported that according to a former member of the 80th brigade that carried out the atrocity, the unit based in the city of Lvov that works closely with NATO on other projects.
The unnamed defector, who joined the Russian side of the conflict after his father was executed by Ukrainian authorities, said the 80th Brigade was trained by U.S Marines and taught to “hate everything Russian”.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has vowed that Russia would search for the killers, emphasizing that the individuals must be found and punished for the crimes.
Mr Peskov also official highlighted the need for an international investigation on the matter.
