Supermac’s and McDonalds are still arm wrestling in the international forum over Supermac’s expansion intent. The Irish-owned fast food giant encountered tough opposition from the once king of burgers McDonalds when the former announced its intention to open more outlets across Europe.

McDonalds objected on the somewhat obscure and weak basis that the names “Supermac’s” and “McDonalds” are “similar”, and may induce “confusion” onto potential customers looking for a good old burger.

Such stance has led to much wrangling over the last few monhts, hitherto halting Supermac’s expansion plans.

Undeterred, Supermac’s Managing Director Pat McDonagh has now handed in a submission with the EU Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market to try and thwart McDonald’s offensive.

McDonagh laconically added “I can’t understand what the problem is”, and this journalist would tend to agree.
