The minimum age required to use WhatsApp has been reduced from 16 to 13 years old, reports Breaking News.
The decrease is a component of the revised terms and conditions that went into effect on Friday. It aligns WhatsApp with other social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others, which all require users to be at least 13 years old.
This is in spite of the Department of Education’s request earlier this week for social media companies to raise the minimum service user age to sixteen, reports Breaking News.
On Wednesday, Ireland’s Minister of Education, Norma Foley, convened a roundtable meeting with officials from social media and technology companies. The topic of discussion was potential improvements to child safety on the internet.
