Whatsapp voice notes and messages being sent claiming a lockdown on Tuesday are “completely unfounded”

There’s a number of whatsapp messages and voice notes being sent around again tonight claiming that there’s going to be a complete lockdown announced by the government on Tuesday.

The messages going around vary in detail but all basically say that the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be making a statement to the country announcing a full lockdown will be imposed and the army will be patrolling the streets, but these messages are “completely unfounded”, with no official substance attached to them at all.

Earlier, the Defence Forces were forced to announce that a separate whatsapp message being circulated about a “total lockdown” occurring on Monday is “false and inaccurate”.

Two separate whatsapp messages, one from a woman and one from a man, started to circulate on Thursday evening claiming that Leo Varadkar was going to speak to the nation at 8am on Monday morning declaring a Status Red lockdown.

The Defence Forces have said that the messages are false and that they’ll be helping the HSE when and where needed.
