An animal welfare organisation has strongly criticised those responsible for abandoning a kitten inside a plastic bag and leaving it on the side of a road in Co Donegal.
The kitten’s remains were discovered among general household waste in a bag on Convent Road, Falcarragh, reports Breaking News.
According to Animals in Need, a Donegal-based animal charity, the bag had been tied so tightly that it appears the intent was to suffocate the animal before discarding it.
A representative from the charity stated: “We know Ireland is in a crisis with unwanted kittens being born, but to tie up a bag with a kitten inside and dump it on the roadside is beyond any excuse in the world. Imagine the shock of the person who found this bag and saw the poor kitten. Was the kitten alive when the bag was tied up? Well, why else go to such an effort to tie it up so tightly?” reports Breaking News.
The group noted that it was fortunate children were not the ones to stumble upon the disturbing scene.
They continued: “Kids could have come (upon) that bag and seen the dreadful sight of the poor defenceless kitten inside, suffocated.
“The person doing this clearly thought little of the kitten and as little of anyone coming across their crime. It’s sad, and very worrying, that people like that walk amongst us,” reports Breaking News.
At present, the charity has numerous cats and kittens listed for adoption.
They have urged cat owners to ensure their adult pets are neutered, reports Breaking News.
“We know rescues are stretched but this kitten should never have been born into suffering like this. Please, make sure adult cats get neutered before kittens are born. We can help with cost. Please – let’s avoid ever seeing a sight like this again. RIP little kitten,” reports Breaking News.
