There appears to be more questions than answers in relation to the terrifying incident that occurred on Sunday in Carlow.
People are demanding to know what exactly happened on the day itself and what were the events that led up to it.
Gardaí described the shooting in Carlow town, which left one man dead and a child with minor injuries, as “terrifying” for all present. At a press conference, they reported receiving multiple calls about shots fired at Fairgreen Shopping Centre.
Responding officers found people fleeing the scene.
An unarmed uniformed unit observed the suspect, an Irish man in his 20s, exiting the centre and firing a shotgun into the air. A plain-clothed armed garda unit then arrived, identifying themselves. The suspect fired again, fatally wounding himself.
No garda shots were fired.
The shopping centre and carpark remained sealed off this morning.
The deceased, previously granted bail for firearm offences, was described as having a fascination with guns for recreational use, not criminal intent, and was under strict bail conditions.
According to RTE, assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman said the suspect fired multiple shots into the air while moving through the centre. No one was injured by his gunfire. A young girl sustained a minor leg injury while fleeing with her parents.
