The Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange has been arrested, charged and convicted in London today.
He now faces extradition to America after Metropolitan police aggressively removed him from the Ecuadorian embassy in London almost seven years after he sought refuge there.
Assange was taken by police and placed before Westminster Magistrates’ Court earlier this afternoon where he was found guilty of breaching bail conditions in 2012.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court at a later date. If convicted, Mr Assange faces up to 1 year in jail and a possible 5 year jailterm in America, if he gets extradited.
He will next appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 2 May by prison video-link in relation to the extradition case.
Assange’s team have thanked the public for their support so far.
