
Will Ferrell’s holiday costume from the film Elf has sold for more than €270,000 at auction.
The outfit comes from producer Jon Berg and has been screen-matched to the lift scene where Buddy presses every button to watch them glow like a Christmas tree, reports The Mirror.
The green-and-yellow Elf suit, which includes a black buckle along with a white collar and cuffs, achieved a price of £239,400 (€274,257), including buyer’s premium, during the first day of Propstore’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction featuring pieces from films such as Superman (1978), Spider-Man 3 (2007) and Beetlejuice (1988).
The top-selling item was Boba Fett’s EE-3 carbine blaster from The Empire Strikes Back (1980), which went for £459,900 (€526,861) after being estimated between £350,000 (€400,960) and £700,000 (€801,920), reports The Mirror.
Exceeding its upper estimate by more than £60,000 (€68,736) was the fedora worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom (1984), which sold for £365,400 (€418,602), reports The Mirror.
Another standout item was the lightsaber used by Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), selling for £289,800 (€331,994) and accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by George Lucas, reports The Mirror.
Also listed were props from the sci-fi classic The Fifth Element (1997), including the screen-matched light-up multipass carried by Milla Jovovich’s character Leeloo, which sold for £195,300 (€223,735).
In addition, the hoverboard used by Michael J Fox as Marty McFly in Back To The Future Part II (1989) and Part III (1990) sold for £233,100 (€267,039), beating its highest estimate by more than 100,000, reports The Mirror.
Other pieces included a “cursed” Aztec medallion necklace featured by Orlando Bloom’s character Will Turner in Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003), along with the full ecclesiastical costume worn by Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix Reloaded (2003).
Several horror-themed items were auctioned as well, including a Ghostface mask from Scream (1996) and the stunt axe used by Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance in The Shining (1980), which sold for £176,400 (€202,083), reports The Mirror.
Stephen Lane, Propstore’s founder and chief executive, said: “The opening days of our live auctions are always full of friendly spirited bidding competition – and day one of our Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction certainly did not disappoint”, reports The Mirror.
“Boba Fett’s blaster drew significant attention from the moment it was unveiled, and its superb performance has set a strong pace for the weekend. Star Wars has always been a cornerstone of Propstore’s history, and seeing a piece of this calibre excite collectors is especially meaningful to us. This auction brings together some of the most iconic creations in film, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the rest of the event unfolds,” reports The Mirror.
