Will it work? First Shipment of grain leaves Ukraine port in deal to relieve current global food crisis

Following on from a landmark agreement on the 22nd of July which saw Ukraine and Russia sign a deal with Turkey and the United Nations in hopes of easing a global food crisis, the first shipment of grain has left a Ukrainian port this week.

According to RTE ,The ship named Razoni believed to be carrying 26,000 tonnes of grain left the port of Odesa and is expected to reach the mouth of the Bosphorus tomorrow at around midday.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba described the departure of the ship from the port as a “relief for the world”.
“The day of relief for the world, especially for our friends in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, as the first Ukrainian grain leaves Odesa after months of Russian blockade. Ukraine has always been a reliable partner and will remain one should Russia respect its part of the deal,” Mr Kuleba tweeted.

Ukraine one of the world’s biggest grain suppliers, accounts for forty percent of the world’s supply. Following the invasion of Ukraine by its neighbour Russia and subsequent blockage of the Black Sea the UN estimates that nearly 50 million people began to face “acute hunger” around the world as a direct consequence of the war.
