War is coming in the form of massive blockbuster Warcraft that aims to knock the Lord of the Rings trilogy from its misty pedestal.
Fleeing their dying home to colonize another, fearsome Orc warriors invade the peaceful realm of Azeroth. The epic fantasy/adventure is based on the popular video game series.
The trailer promises plenty of fantasy action. It also offers a more sympathetic view of Orcs than in Lord of the Rings. It shows their young and portrays them as loving and nurturing.
“Our world is dying. If our people are to survive we must make a home here,” says the Orc Durotan in the film.
Despite never having played the game I have high hopes for this given the presence of director Duncan Jones who made sci-fi hits ‘Moon’ and ‘Source Code’ so it’s in capable hands. He has shared numerous pictures from the set on his Twitter page.
If the film is a success we could well see a new trilogy. It is not easy to get right however. Look what happened to The Golden Compass. Then you have the Hobbit trilogy, the last film of which I thought was a disaster. It was one of the worst films I have seen in a long time considering my high hopes.
In Warcraft, Travis Fimmel (who previously starred in TV series Vikings) plays human leader Anduin Lothar, Ben Foster is aboard as Medich while Dominic Cooper plays King Llane Wrynn. British actor Toby Kebbell is playing the role of the CGI Orc Durotan.
The multiplayer online role-playing games has millions of fans across the world so there are high hopes that they will flock to see the movie adapatation. In interviews Duncan has vowed to do justice to the game on the big screen.
From Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures comes Warcraft, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon. They stated: “The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.”
