French investigators have now officially verified that the wing fragment that washed ashore in the island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean did indeed come from the missing Malaysian Airlines jet.
Flight MH-370 vanished without trace on March 8 last year, sparking a huge international search operation that yielded nothing.
Officials who examined the data logs exchanged between the jet and satellite network concluded that the plane flew in a straight line over the sea for hours, seemingly indicating that it was flying on autopilot until fuel ran out and crashed somewhere in a remote area of the Indian Ocean.
