There was more good news for Russia on Monday as China announced it was cutting off supplies of Liquefied Natural Gas to the EU.
Beijing’s official reason for the cut off was to replenish the country’s own supplies as Winter approaches.
China has a surplus of LNG due to a Covid lockdown induced economic slowdown and in August offered to sell this gas to the EU, which was in short supply of the vital energy source due to its sanctions on Russia.
Now China, which is importing as much Russian energy as it can get its hands on, is cutting off Europe just when the continent is in its most dire need – a move which will even further strengthen Moscow’s hand when negotiations inevitably take place after the Kremlin’s Special Military Operation in Ukraine is concluded.
