A witness to a serious incident in Dublin city centre this afternoon detailed efforts to disarm a man involved in a suspected stabbing, calling it “absolutely bedlam”, reports RTE.

A five-year-old girl and a woman working in a nursery were seriously injured in the incident and three others including two children were injured.

Five injured people were taken to various hospitals in Dublin, including Children’s Health Ireland in Crumlin and the Mater Hospital, reports RTE.

Siobhan Carney, whose brother Liam Dunn died in the Stardust nightclub fire in 1981, was attending an inquest into the tragedy at nearby Rotunda Hospital at the time of the stabbing.

“Without thinking, I just took across the road to help out. We got another young man, disarmed him [the attacker] with the knife, another man took the knife and put it away for the garda to find it,” Ms Kearney said, reports RTE.
