Woman, believed to be his mother, arrested after newborn baby boy found alive in rubbish bin in Greece




A woman was arrested in connection to a newborn baby was found dumped inside a rubbish bin in Greece. The baby boy, aged six to ten days, was taken to hospital where he is thankfully said to be generally in good health despite the conditions he was left in. Police say that the 24-yr-old suspect was likely the mother. According to the Metro, the woman is detained because she is suspected of attempted murder of a child.

The mayor of Kalamata in Greece, where the baby was found, told ERT public television that the trash can was nearly three meters deep. Mayor Thanassis Vassilopoulos said the baby “had been very lucky in his misfortune” because the local garbage truck, which destroys the garbage, was delayed on its journey. During the delay, a woman feeding nearby cats heard the baby cry and called the police, who jumped into the trash to pick up the child.
