A Tennessee woman is facing multiple charges including murder, after her two prematurely born twins died with drugs in their system.

According to WTCV the case came to light after the woman Tiffany Marie Roberts, 29, was admitted to hospital on Saturday after experiencing shortness of breath.

Following her admission to hospital, Ms Roberts admitted to doctors that she had taken ecstasy earlier that evening.

It is reported that Roberts prematurely gave birth to the twins on Sunday, however they sadly passed away nine hours apart on Tuesday due to complications.

Police investigating the incident say they were informed that Roberts tested positive for cocaine, oxycodone, Roxicodone, methamphetamine and benzodiazepine on three different occasions whilst attending for check-ups prior to the twins birth.

They also uncovered that the twins tested positive for traces of cocaine and ecstasy following their birth.

Officers investigating the case say Roberts has since been charged aggravated child abuse or neglect and first-degree murder.
