Woman dragged by her hair from car during ‘terrifying’ hijacking in broad daylight

A woman was dragged by her hair from a car in a horrific hijacking in south Belfast yesterday and the vehicle burst into flames shortly afterwards, reports The Mirror.

Police are asking for information about an incident that occurred on Stewart Street in the market area around noon on Friday, June 9.

Belfast Live reports that a man stopped a woman driving a cream-colored Renault Captur with a black roof and indicated there was a problem with the vehicle.

However, when the driver of the car stopped, the man pulled her out of the vehicle by her hair, and the two passengers – another woman and a small child – were ordered to get out, reports The Mirror.

The man then drove the vehicle towards Ormeau Road, where it was found on fire in Raphael Street shortly after.

The man was described as approximately 1.60 meters tall, stocky, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled down, black pants and white sneakers.

“This was a terrifying experience for this woman and her passengers. We have been conducting enquiries in the area and would appeal to anyone with any information or who captured dash-cam footage which could be of assistance to our investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 870 09/06/23,” Detective Sergeant David Kitchen said of the incident, reports The Mirror.
