Woman hospitalised after being bitten by a false black widow spider in Waterford

A woman in Waterford required hospital treatment after being bitten by a false black widow spider it has been revealed.

According to WLR FM, the woman’s hospitalisation comes after a number of the harmful spiders have been spotted in the South of the country.

The radio station says that the woman was admitted six days after being bitten by the spider.

Meanwhile another woman was left badly shaken after coming into contact with the venomous spider.

Although the false black widow spider bite is less venomous than a black widow spider bite, it can cause complications if left untreated as blood infections and other complications can occur.

WLR FM say a number of false black widow spiders have been spotted in the Waterford and South Kilkenny regions in recent weeks.

Experts say false black widow spider is a medium sized spider with a round brown body and has cream coloured markings.

They also have reddish-orange colour legs and usually measure between 9mm to 14mm.
