A lady who claimed to have been a passenger in a car involved in an accident and fraudulently filed a €60,000 personal injury claim before the Circuit Court was given a two-year jail term, with the final nine months suspended, reports RTE.

At a Longford Circuit Court hearing on Friday afternoon, Kristina Mieliauskaite, 38, who previously resided at Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, appeared before Judge Kenneth Connolly.

Diana Jakubovskaja, of Cúirt An Óir, Athlone Road, Longford, and Janis Bukks, 34, of Mostrim Oaks, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, were both present as co-accused, reports RTE.

All three co-accused were charged with making false statements and trying to use fraud to obtain something or harm someone else.

The Garda In her testimony, Denise Dockery informed the court that she was informed of a two-vehicle traffic incident on April 10, 2018, just before 2:00 pm.

The black Volkswagen Passat, driven by Mr. Bukks, and the blue Volkswagen Golf, driven by Ms. Jakubovskaja, were seen by Garda Dockery when she arrived on the scene, reports RTE.

Garda Dockery was informed that Ms. Jakubovskaja had slowed down to turn off the road for a car ahead of her, and that Mr. Bukks had then rear-ended her.

Mr. Jakubovskaja stated that there was no passenger in her car when the collision occurred, and they informed Garda Dockery that they did not know one another.

Upon speaking with Mr Bukks, Garda Dockery discovered that he had a valid licence and was covered by Liberty Insurance. He said that day he was relocating from Drumlish to Longford, reports RTE.

He filed two personal injury claims with his insurance provider. Ms. Jakubovskaja made one of those claims for personal injuries and damages to her vehicle.

Ms. Mieliauskaite made the other one, claiming to have been a passenger in the rear seat of Ms. Jakubovskaja’s car.

However, Garda Dockery informed the court that when she arrived, the automobile had no backseat passengers, and no passenger was mentioned until later in an interview when Ms. Jakubovskaja stated that she was “in shock” after the collision, reports RTE.

The insurance firm received many documents proving that Mr. Bukks was listed as a named driver on Ms. Jakubovskaja’s policy.

The insurance company’s additional inquiry turned up an email address connected to both Mr. Bukks and Ms. Jakubovskaja, reports RTE.

Several screenshots were also included, demonstrating that the three co-accused were Facebook friends.

Several inconsistencies with Mr. Bukks’s account to Liberty Insurance were discovered after his arrest, reports RTE.
