This is the shocking moment an elderly woman was attacked and thrown to the ground in broad daylight in South Dublin.

The victim, dressed in a red coat, walking down the sidewalk on George’s Street Upper in Dun Laoghaire at 3:30pm on Wednesday.

An unidentified woman approached the woman from behind. She took a step to jog before suddenly grabbing her bag.

The force of the fight knocks the victim down and she rolls into the street as the would-be robber runs out into the street with her bag.

However, two brave members of the public who witnessed the incident managed to intervene and stop the suspected thief in his tracks.

A woman later, wearing a green coat, sees the alleged thief approaching and grabs her to prevent her from escaping from her. She then takes the bag off her back when the woman gives up and runs away from her.

Meanwhile, a man, who was standing near her making a phone call, rushes over to help the old woman on the ground.

The clip shows the victim gesturing to the robber who runs away from her with her bag and then the man chases her down the street.

A woman, in her thirties, has since been arrested by Gardai in connection with the incident and she is being questioned by Gardai at Dundrum Garda station.

Gardai say a woman has been arrested in relation to the incident with an investigation ongoing.
