Between Nigeria and the Boko Haram militants, a total of 82 schoolgirls out of a group of more than 200, whom were kidnapped by the militant group from the northeastern town of Chibok in April 2014, have been released in exchange for prisoners, the Nigerian President has said.
The kidnapping was an international incident and was extremely high profile with the tagline going around the world of “bring our girls home”.
It was the biggest event that the Boko Haram’s insurgency in Nigeria managed to do. A total of 220 schoolgirls were abducted from their school in a nighttime attack in April 2014 and just over 3 years later, around 140 still remain missing but lenghty negotiations are said to be ongoing.
Here’s hoping they all get released as soon as possible.
