Working from home as part of work is now critical for workplace wellness, survey finds

New findings from Ibec reveal that hybrid and flexible working arrangements continue to be a vital element in supporting employee wellbeing, reports RTE.

The survey, which involved over 1,000 participants, showed that 68% of workers view hybrid or flexible work as essential to their wellness, while 35% would consider leaving a high-paying job in favour of one that provides hybrid options.

The report indicates that employees rank work-life balance, financial wellbeing assistance, and mental health programmes as top priorities for employer-provided support, reports RTE.

Close to 70% of respondents said that the importance of workplace wellness has increased for them in the past two to three years.

Furthermore, 28% observed a notable boost in wellbeing initiatives by their employers, with an additional 30% reporting a moderate improvement in efforts, reports RTE.

Despite this, 35% of employees believe that their direct managers lack the training or support necessary to prioritise staff wellbeing effectively.

Ibec released the research in the lead-up to the 11th National Workplace Wellbeing Day, which is scheduled for 30 April, reports RTE.

The event serves as a platform for businesses to highlight their wellbeing strategies and showcase how they are promoting better health and support for their employees.

“We are now operating in a post-COVID work environment, where discussions on the future of hybrid work and the role of DE&I initiatives continue to shape workplace wellness,” said Ibec CEO Danny McCoy, reports RTE.

“What remains clear is the vital role of workplace wellness in supporting employees and fostering an environment where they can thrive. This research underscores that workplace wellness has never been more important. Companies must continue to invest in it, while staying agile to meet the evolving needs of their workforce,” Mr McCoy said, reports RTE.
