The well known actor, star of films such as Harry Potter and Die Hard, has died at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer.
Rickman, a staple of TV, film, and stage plays for many years, shot to international fame back in 1988 when he played Bruce Willis’ cold and cunning nemesis Hans Gruber in the action classic Die Hard. Rickman was offered the part two days after arriving in Los Angeles.
He would also play two more memorable onscreen villains; the Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and also Rasputin in a much-acclaimed HBO film in 1995.
Though he never won an Oscar throughout his career, Rickman won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, a Bafta, and many more awards.
He will be sorely missed.
