World-renowned Italian film director Franco Zeffirelli passes away aged 96




World-renowned Italian film director Franco Zeffirelli has passed away, aged 96.

Zeffirelli, perhaps best known for his 1968 film Romeo and Juliet and the 1979’s remake of The Champ, also worked on television and opera during a career that spanned almost six decades.

Notably, he was confirmed to descend from one of Leonardo da Vinci’s siblings.

Zeffirelli died on Saturday at the age of 96. The cause of death was complications arising from pneumonia.
