World’s oldest person Tomiko Itooka has sadly died at 116




According to Guinness World Records, the oldest individual in the world passed away at the age of 116, reports Sky.

According to staff, Tomiko Itooka passed away on December 29 at a care facility in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, central Japan.

Family and friends attended a funeral service.

Born on May 23, 1908, Ms. Itooka was fond of bananas and Calpis, a Japanese beverage with a yoghurt taste, reprots Sky.

According to the Gerontology Research Group, she was acknowledged as the oldest person last year after Maria Branyas, who was 117 years old, passed away.

“Thank you.” was Ms. Itooka’s response when she was informed that she was at the top of the World Supercentenarian Ranking System, reprots Sky.

Last year, the mayor sent her a letter, a cake, and flowers for her birthday.
