The Garda Cyber Crime Bureau have issued a stern warning today to people who access their bank account through their mobile phone.
In a statement, the Bureau said:
“At least 70% of Irish people use smart phones equalling approximately 2.3million devices, on top of that 1.7million of us have access to a tablet device.
“We use our smart phones for internet activity more than any other western country. The proportion of web traffic on phones here, in Ireland, is almost 1/3 higher than the European average and ¼ higher than in the UK.”
In order to protect from your phone from these attacks, they suggest only installing trusted apps from your bank, preferably the official app, ensure your phone is up-to-date and not jailbroken (for iPhone) or rooted (for Android).
They also said you should frequently back up your phone because such an attack can leave the phone unworkable.
