Young American boy hailed as hero after steering school bus to safety after driver passes out at the wheel

Dillon Reeves, 13, has been praised for an “an extraordinary act of courage and maturity” after his actions were caught on video as he jumped into action as the vehicle carrying dozens of screaming children hurtled into oncoming traffic.

A young boy has been hailed as a “little hero” for grabbing the wheel of a school bus and bringing it to a safe stop after the driver died on a busy road.

Dillon Reeves, 13, was praised for “an extraordinary act of courage and maturity” after he sprang into action when the vehicle carrying several screaming children plunged into oncoming traffic in the Detroit, Michigan area.

Wednesday’s drama was captured by a video camera above the driver.

After hitting the brakes, Dillon yelled, “Someone call 911. Now,” reports Sky.

Moments earlier, video footage showed the driver covering herself with a baseball cap and radioing the traffic agency that she was sick and had to stop.

Robert Livernois, Superintendent, Warren Consolidated Schools said: “In my 35-plus years of education, this was an extraordinary act of courage and maturity on his part,” reports Sky.

“I don’t know that it could have gone any better,” Mr Livernois said, noting adults helped children out of the back door, reports Sky.

Dillon declined to speak to reporters, but his parents, Steve and Ireta Reeves, expressed how proud they were.

Warren City Councilman Jonathan Lafferty wrote on Facebook: “This young man jumped into action when his school bus driver experienced a medical emergency, bringing the bus to a stop and avoiding what could have been a very tragic accident,” reports Sky.
