A man has been killed in a road rage incident in Limerick on Friday, reports Breaking News.

The 21-year-old has been locally named Joe Drennan and is from Knocknagad in Mountrath, Co. Laois.

News that I had just finished work at an Italian restaurant at a bus stop on Dublin Road when he was hit by one of the two empty cars in the collision.

He was a fourth-year journalism student at the University of Limerick (UL) and one of the editors of the Limerick Voice.

Earlier this year he was shortlisted for the National Student Media Awards.

Drennan died shortly after 9:50 p.m. on Friday evening at the University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

Local Democrat councillor Elisa O’Donovan expressed her “deepest condolences to Joe Drennan’s family and friends”, reports Breaking News.

In a statement issued by the Garda, he appeals for information about the accident and the fact that one of the witnesses responsible for the incident did not appear in the accident’s place.

The matter was also referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman because the car, which had been on the road, had been involved in a collision with police officers before the collision, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí are asking anyone to report information to contact the Henry Street Garda Station on 061-212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-66-61-11 or the Garda Station.
