Real fears are growing on social media that Zelensky is going to drag Europe into a war against Russia, unless President Donald Trump can do something to create a ceasefire and get a peaceful outcome.
Many people on social media have said that Trump spoke for people whose voices have been quelled under Joe Biden.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in heated exchanges during a tense Oval Office meeting, where Zelensky pressed Trump to take a harder stance against Russia. Trump, in turn, called Zelensky disrespectful as long-standing tensions between the two erupted publicly.
The clash occurred ahead of a planned White House event where the leaders were expected to finalize an agreement on U.S. involvement in Ukraine’s mineral sector. However, a White House official later confirmed that the deal remains unsigned, and a scheduled joint news conference was scrapped.
The confrontation follows Zelensky’s outspoken criticism of Trump’s more lenient posture toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky disputed Trump’s assertion that three years of conflict have left Ukrainian cities in ruins, while Trump insisted that Putin is open to negotiation. At one point, Trump warned Zelensky,
“You are gambling with World War III,” Mr Trump told Mr Zelensky at one point, urging him to be more thankful.
