Hospital overcrowding crisis: 440 patients are languishing waiting for beds around the country

According to data from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), at least 440 individuals were on the waiting list for beds in Irish hospitals on Monday morning, reports Breaking News.

According to the union’s daily report on hospital congestion, 89 patients were in other hospital wards and 351 people were waiting in emergency rooms.

University institution Limerick (UHL), where 85 patients were waiting for a bed on Monday, was the institution with the highest patient congestion, according to the INMO, reports Breaking News.

48 patients were waiting at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin, and 53 patients were waiting on trolleys at University Hospital Galway.

The Health Service Executive’s own statistics show that 325 patients were waiting on trolleys on Monday at hospitals under its management.

The HSE’s daily urgent and emergency care report showed that there were 46 patients waiting at UHL and 40 patients waiting for a spare room at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin, reports Breaking News.

Patients waiting on a hospital trolley or an additional bed at an improper location on a hospital ward are included in the HSE statistics.

Patients waiting to be admitted to a bed in hospitals are also counted by the INMO while they are positioned on chairs or in hallways, reports Breaking News.
