A man has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after he got into difficulty while swimming in north Clare late on Tuesday evening.
It’s understood that the alarm was raised shortly before 10pm when two swimmers had been pulled out to sea at Fanore in north County Clare.
The Irish Coast Guard, National Ambulance Service and Gardaí were all deployed to the scene. The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, was also rushed to the area.
It’s understood one of the swimmers was taken from the water relatively unharmed with the other being rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
