The DUP leader Edwin Poots has resigned as party leader less than a month after being elected into the role.
In an announcement this evening Poots confirmed that he was leaving his role and has asked the party to commence the process of electing a new leader.
The decisive move comes after a number of DUP members have criticised Poots over his decision to elect a new First Minister.
It is believed that DUP members wanted Poots to delay the decision as they voiced opposition to the British Government’s decision to introduce Sinn Fein’s proposed Irish language act.
