Ireland have claimed their first Gold medal of the 2020 Olympics as Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy took the win in the Men’s Lightweight Double skulls.
In a follow up to yesterday’s success in the women’s four were team Ireland took home bronze, the Irish duo lived up there favourites tag to take home the Gold medal.
O’Donovan and McCarthy who set a world best in yesterday’s semi final showed true strength and resilience in today’s final as they fought back to over take German team who took the led early on.
However despite a late resurgence from the German’s the Irish duo found another gear and rowed home to victory.
