Rumours are circulating widely on social media on Saturday evening that a very large number of refugees are going to be housed in a County Meath town within the next three weeks.

It’s understood that 300 refugees are going to be placed in the Old Eureka secondary school in Kells before St Patrick’s Day.

It’s not yet been confirmed but a number of locals in the area say that it’s happening and that they’re getting ready to protest the move.

The Liberal was contacted by various Kells residents who say that they will be out in force if the move goes ahead claiming that there is “no way on earth Kells can carry 300 refugees given the services, amenities, housing and traffic problems the town has”.

It must be emphasised that this has not been officially confirmed by the department of integration but that locals say a number of politicians have told them that it is indeed going ahead.
